Pristine Antique French Empire Needle Original Case : Acanthus Leaves & Wreaths

French Empire Needle Original Case

French Empire Needle Original Case

Absolute incredible, the quality of this needle case that still has its original needle. The needle has a little spoon at the end that was used either as ear spoon or snuff spoon. The needle is nicely cut ajour (open work) showing a flower hidden in the little framework of the needle. On the outside of the needle case there is a fencing of wreaths that are executed in green and red gold on a background of yellow gold. The both ends of the needle case are skilfully elaborated with acanthus leaves showing us the influence of the classical style that was so much in fashion in France in the beginning of the 19th Century.

18th Century Bible Closure : Engraved Gold & Allegorical Figures

In the 17th, 18th and early 19th century it was not uncommon that church books had gold or silver mountings. Not only protestant but also catholic and even Jewish church books were richly decorated with gold or silver. It is only recently that various Dutch museums (and collectors) dive into this field and are working on a overview of this fenomenon.

The bible closure we have here is most likely made in Amsterdam at the end of the 18th Century. We can see in the book “Zondags zilver” (Dutch for “Sunday’s silver”) by van Noordwijk a similar closure in silver. According to the author the silver mounting in his book is most likely made by Simon Woortman who worked in Amsterdam between 1789 and 1815.

The three allegoric figures are: The woman standing with an open book and torch is Sapientia (wisdom). The woman sitting with the mirror is Prudentia (circumspection) The woman leaning against the column and pillar is Fortitudo (vigor)

First Plover’s Egg found! (in the Garden of Adin)

Extravagant estate engagement ring with one 6 crt bulky stone

Huge Fancy Diamond Estate Engagement Ring Platinum

The sign of springtime!

ANTWERP, March 28 (Reuters) – In Friesland, the Northern part of Holland, it is an old tradition to offer the first found plover’s egg in the springtime to the Queen. This first found egg (called in Dutch: “eerste kievitsei”) is a symbol for the beginning of the springtime. So, still today although forbidden in the rest of Europe but allowed in Friesland on cultural historical grounds, people hunt for the first egg.

The Gardener of Adin, not aware of this yearly contest, stumbled upon a nest full of eggs when weeding the Garden of Adin, becoming the unintentional winner of this folkloric event.
